"Costa's "thermal" lake can only be visited upon request from the owners, who have fenced it off to prevent dangerous bathing and vandalism.
Supplied only by a hot spring, its once vast basin is gradually shrinking.
It was once used to collect mud (now a prerogative of Lispida) used by nearby Abano and Montegrotto, and was the site of a Paleolithic settlement, making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It remains delightful, a blue liquid surrounded by reeds and shrubs, visible from the road and hillside paths, and mysterious when the mist rises from its warm surface, evoking old tales and legends long since forgotten."

"Laghetto della Costa, one of the prehistoric pile-dwelling sites around the Alps, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011 because Bronze Age pile-dwellings were discovered there. The first inhabitants of this area certainly also recognized the benefits of this lake with its hot springs. It is fed by a thermal spring that flows at the end of a small peninsula jutting out toward the center of the lake. And it is from this lake (and the nearby Lispida lake) that the wonderful mud baths of Abano and Montegrotto Terme are harvested."
