What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Museo Archeologico Francesco Savini to be an incredibly valuable museum, rich with the history of Teramo from prehistoric times to the Roman era. However, many reviews highlight significant issues with inconsistent opening hours and a lack of clear information, leading to disappointment for those who arrive to find it unexpectedly closed.
"An incredibly valuable Archaeological Museum, closed following the earthquakes that struck our region from 2009 to 2017. €10 million was allocated for its renovation.
My fondest memories of this beautiful museum are the reconstruction of the city's history, from the first prehistoric villages to the grandeur of the Roman Interamnia and much, much more throughout the centuries. It houses numerous archaeological finds, including the reconstruction of a pre-Roman hut. The museum also houses the Sala San Carlo, a gem of a room where events used to be held.
As a Teramo native, I apologize to all the tourists who don't have the opportunity to visit, but even more so to all those children who can't see with their own eyes what Teramo has been like over the centuries."
Stefano Balloni
"This morning (Sunday, 11:00 a.m.), I wanted to visit the museum with an English colleague, but we found it closed. I asked passersby for directions and was told that the museum has been closed for several months due to post-earthquake renovations. This was confirmed to me by a city council member who was nearby for a demonstration. There's nothing written at the entrance; anyone wanting to visit the museum simply finds the door locked without opening hours. It would be a good idea to put up a sign explaining the reason for the closure and update Google Maps accordingly."

"Thursday morning, 10:30 a.m.: Closed. No warning. No one answers the intercom or the phone. Only pigeon droppings in front of the front door."
