What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Volterra's Artisan Quarter for its authentic craftsmanship and the friendly, helpful nature of the artisans. The opportunity to witness live demonstrations and find unique alabaster pieces across a wide price range is a major draw. While it's a commercial area, the genuine artistry and welcoming atmosphere make it a highly recommended stop.
"Loved our time here! The owner was very friendly and shipped our items back to the USA for us. They arrived about 3 days after we got home. They have a bathroom which is the reason we even walked in. My chessboard was a great addition to my study."
Daniel Deskins
"A good visit with lathe turning of the calcium sulphate stone.
Yes, it is a sales pitch, but I appreciated the demonstration and purchased some alabaster."
Alan Thompson
"There are many alabaster shops and workshops in Volterra and all of them are fun to visit! But Rossi is a must-stop shop. Their selection of items for sale come from multiple different artists and are beautiful! You can find anything from €3 - €3500. So it fits for all budgets and styles. The staff running the shop were really helpful and fun! There is also a workshop directly next door where you can see how alabaster is carved. Just be thoughtful about leaving a euro or two in the plate for the artist. Check it out while you’re in Volterra!"
