What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jamia Masjid Talab Khatikan is lauded as Jammu's largest mosque, admired for its grand Islamic architecture and its role as a central spiritual hub. Visitors appreciate its beauty and the peaceful ambiance it offers for worship and reflection. However, some reviews note that the maintenance of facilities, particularly washrooms, could be improved, detracting slightly from an otherwise significant religious and cultural experience.
"The Markazi Jamia Masjid, located in the Talab Khatikan area of Jammu, is a significant religious and cultural landmark for the Muslim community in the region. Recently reconstructed, this multi-story mosque accommodates numerous worshippers and stands as a testament to Islamic architecture and community spirit."

"Biggest mosque in the whole jammu city
Washrooms need to be well maintained"
Ra Shid
"Correct name: Jama Masjid, Khatikan Talab (not Khatbla).
The name “Talab Khatikan” comes from a pond (Talab) once surrounded by the Khatik community, leather tanners who lived here before 1947. This area was once a small market with a few shops, a mosque, and muddy lanes. It gained importance in 1956 when the then Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad (later became Chief Minister), built the grand Jama Masjid here.
Today, it is also a central Tablighi Markaz of Jammu Province. Nearly every Muslim visiting Jammu’s winter capital ends up at Talab Khatikan. Sadly, the condition of the mosque premises—especially the washrooms—is disappointing. It feels like the peacock that dances proudly but weeps upon seeing its feet. The lack of unity and individual egos among locals have directly affected the development and upkeep of this important religious site."
