What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently impressed by Akashina Station's beautiful, natural wood architecture and the stunning alpine views from its overpass. While its remote mountain setting means limited nearby amenities, the station itself is well-maintained, clean, and offers comfortable waiting areas and restrooms. Some travelers noted the station staff's casual attire and demeanor, but the overall impression is one of a surprisingly substantial and aesthetically pleasing rural station.
"It is an unmanned station located deep in the mountains, but it is a fairly impressive station with 3 platforms. The station building itself was relatively new, so it seems to have been renovated recently."

"A beautiful wooden station building.
The station is staffed during weekday mornings and has a ticket vending machine where you can also print out Ekinet tickets.
The only place to kill time nearby is Delicia, but the waiting room is fully air-conditioned and heated, and the toilets have washlets, so you won't have to wait for a long time."

"I came down from Mt. Nagamine and stopped by to board a Shinkansen train heading towards Nagano.
Although there's a sign that reads "JR Akeshina Station," it appears the station is privately operated. There's only one vending machine and a ticket counter at the automatic ticket gate, and the man at the counter was wearing casual clothes, not a JR uniform. Couldn't he be a bit friendlier?!
Even so, it's a really impressive station. I was surprised. The station building, made from natural wood from Nagano, smells wonderful, and it seems newly built. There's also a good guide to sightseeing in Azumino. The station plaza, with its neat layout of a driveway, parking lot, and taxi stand, is impressive. Perhaps the lack of a waiting room is due to the station's lack of capacity. If so, the station itself is disproportionately impressive. I also like the clean, hygienic restrooms. However, be aware that there are no noticeable restaurants, cafes, or convenience stores in front of the station."
