What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Urayasu Fish Market's recent reopening, enjoying the lively atmosphere, fresh seafood, and unique activities like fish filleting classes and mobile food stalls. However, some noted a smaller fish selection than anticipated and highlighted significant challenges with parking and local traffic management.
"It reopened on the third Saturday of November. There were also a fish filleting experience class, a rock-paper-scissors game where you could win points, and mobile pizza and coffee stalls. It had been a while since the last morning market, so everyone was really enthusiastic. However, there wasn't as much fish as I had hoped, so I ended up buying vegetables from a local farm. The mobile pizza and coffee stalls added to the fun atmosphere. I'm looking forward to what's to come."

"I went to the fishing port first thing in the morning. It is usually held once a month on Saturdays from 9am for two hours, but due to the effects of COVID-19, it seems that it has been suspended for a while. It may have been on a break for almost half a year...
Please be careful when driving, as the number of people is high and the neighbors are nervous, and if you park on the street, you will be reported immediately and the police car will often come. With the help of a kind fisherman, I was able to get through safely that day.
Before the start, as a COVID-19 countermeasure, we waited in line with space between each other to prevent people from flooding in. On this day, we had local vegetables such as komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach) (including peanuts with branches from Hantate and Omasari, and even substitutes such as zebra eggplant), fresh fish such as black squid and Honbinosu clams, processed foods such as Honbinosu clam chowder, clams and cod roe tsukudani, fried sea bass, light meals such as pizza, and desserts from gelato directly from the farm. Although the space was small, there was everything you need. It requires a reservation, but you can also practice how to fillet fish (bring an apron). There were about 10 people doing it. On the same premises, Minatoya, which is directly managed by the fishery association, sells sea bass fillets, which Funabashi has the highest catch in Japan. This is where you can buy them when the morning market is not running."

"In Funabashi City where I live, the fishing industry has been going since the Edo period and is still going strong, and the fishing port's Water God Festival is being held for the first time in four years. The sea bass and hard clams that can be bought at the fishing port are delicious."
