"I visited this shell mound on July 28, 2021. This shell mound is an archaeological site dating back to the early Jomon period (around 6000 BC). It is located in the Gonohe River basin, but due to the Jomon transgression, the coastline moved further inland than it is today, and it is believed that this area's hills were once the coastline. Sea levels were about 3 meters higher than they are today, so Old Oirase Bay likely extended up to this point. Looking at the sediments in the shell mound, most of them are the remains of marine life. Fishing as a livelihood likely ensured a stable food supply, leading to sedentarization. Broken bone fishhooks, harpoon heads, and stone weights for nets have been excavated. Conversely, the lack of animal bones and nut seeds and shells suggests that the climate was warm enough that large amounts of food did not need to be stored for winter."

"Following the navigation, we went along a farm road through fields, and at the end of the road, there was a house with a lifebuoy on display, and the navigation pointed us further ahead🤔
Huh? There was nothing there. Just then, a man who seemed to be the owner of the house came out of the house with the lifebuoy on display, so we asked him about the shell mound. He brought us a pamphlet for the Hokkaido Tohoku Archaeological Site from his home and kindly told us, "This is it. It's in the pamphlet, isn't it? There's only a sign on the road up one level."🙇🙇🙇
We turned back and went up one level, and there it was, the sign. It was an open area.
As it was a shell mound, if we continued on the paved road, we would soon come to a slightly elevated area that looked like the sea, and the breeze was refreshing🤗"
