What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Osawa Onsen is praised for its authentic, traditional atmosphere, with many comparing it to a Ghibli film setting, especially the Tojiya inn. Visitors love the natural beauty, the hot springs with river views, and the affordability. However, some mention inconsistent service and the remote location requiring careful planning.
"I didn't stay at tojiya, I've seen the videos on it (not for me), I stayed next door (the modern one) but explored tojiya, including the mixed outdoor bath.
Wish the bath could be open longer (24 hours) tho other baths in sansuikaku is 24-hours, it doesn't give you a clear view of the river or the sky since the glass window fogs up, especially at night."

"Really bad service from the onsen staff. The Ghibli staff were great."

"Oh my god what a fantastic onsen.
It is very affordable to stay here, like a Hostel onsen. Extra stuff costs extra (heater, Aircon, usw). But they are by choice. There is a nice little restaurant or you can cook yourself.
the onsen has a really authentic winding almost chaotic feel to it. Someone said to me they had to think of chihiro's onsen and I can see why. There are a number of baths, including one mixed bath. The outside baths are very hot but the view is fantastic. It was a bit difficult to book as a foreigner because if you just turn up and book it's apparently very easy. I really hope I can come back here."
