Reviews Summary

Kiyosumi Gardens is widely praised for its serene beauty and classic Japanese design, offering a peaceful escape from Tokyo's urban bustle. Visitors particularly love the vibrant azalea blooms in spring and the tranquil atmosphere. Some find the garden to be on the smaller side, and it can get crowded during peak seasons.

"You must see it to believe it!
This garden is all about peace and harmony. Once inside you just want to sit and observe its perfection. It was close to our airbnb so we discovered it by chance but it is definitely one of the best gardens I've ever seen. And it's unbelievable how isolated from the outside world it is while being next to a busy street.
Highly recommend!"

"We just loved this spot! Such a perfect Japanese garden with a ton of history and historical significance. The foliage was lovely and really took you out of the city! But our favorite part were all the lovely bridges and stone walkways over the water. Oh and did I mention it was only about $2/150 yen for the both of us!"

Jess & Jake

"It was a rainy day and yet rain didn’t harm its beauty. It did stand out among other gardens by its characteristics. It does have some stone collections from around Japan. Many with signs indicating where it came and what type was it. Also many interesting stepping stones by the pond. Some were actually a bit challenging for me.

Its Sakura definitely not in season. Only one left. But it is close to the original store of blue bottle. Which would make it fun in one trip to visit both."

Created in the late 19th century, it embodies the principles of traditional Japanese landscape architecture. The garden features a large pond, stepping stones (called 'tobi-ishi'), and carefully placed rocks and trees to create a harmonious and naturalistic scene. The design aims to evoke a sense of peace and contemplation, allowing visitors to escape the urban environment. TikTok

The garden's layout encourages exploration, with winding paths leading to various viewpoints. The tea house (chashitsu) is a focal point, offering a space for quiet reflection and appreciation of the surrounding beauty. Seasonal changes are a key element, with each season offering a distinct palette of colors and moods, from the vibrant azaleas in spring to the rich hues of autumn foliage. Instagram
