Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Komaba Museum for its free admission, stunning historic architecture, and unique exhibitions, including a replica of Duchamp's 'The Large Glass.' The quiet atmosphere and the extensive collection of exhibition catalogs are also highlighted as major draws. However, some find the explanatory texts for certain exhibits to be quite difficult to understand without prior knowledge.

"Visited in the afternoon of October 26, 2025

This museum is located on the University of Tokyo campus, north of Komaba-Todai-mae Station on the Tokyu Inokashira Line.

On the day, I walked from Ikenoue Station to visit the Japan Folk Crafts Museum and the former Marquis Maeda Residence before arriving here.

From Komaba-Todai-mae Station, go through the main gate and turn right. You'll find a nearby building that's very old and gives off a sense of history.

The interior has been beautifully renovated, and at the back of the first floor, a special exhibition was being held, visualizing the world. I enjoyed the various maps and other exhibits.

There was also an exhibit about Oman at the entrance on the first floor."

"Komaba Museum. The building is old, to begin with. The inside has been beautifully renovated. I was a little worried about whether it was open to the public, but it seems fine.

I've passed Komaba Toudaimae on the Inokashira Line countless times, but I've never gotten off there. I was surprised to find it right at the campus entrance. Maybe because it was April, there were a lot of club recruitment signs.

There were hardly any people in the museum.

No photography allowed
Interesting, but the content, or rather, the explanation, is difficult.
However, there was a mirror with a floral pattern inside, which got me excited.
Art Exhibitions in the World of Books
There are tons of catalogs from exhibitions around the country, and you can sit and read them whenever you like.
It's like a special library.
Recently, there was even a catalog for a garden fountain at the special exhibition.
I don't have anywhere to store it at home, so I've never bought a catalog, but I thought it was quite elaborate."

"It's located on the University of Tokyo campus, just a short walk from Komaba-Todai-mae Station on the Inokashira Line. It's great that it's a free museum. I went to see a replica of Marcel Duchamp's work, known as The Large Glass. There are only four official replicas in the world, and one of them is housed at the Komaba Museum. Many of the permanent and special exhibitions seem to have unique content. The museum building has a high ceiling and is quite charming."
