Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Wakimachi Odeon-za Theater for its beautifully restored interior and the incredibly friendly and informative staff who bring its history to life. The low entry fee makes it an exceptional value, offering a deep dive into Japanese theatrical heritage and even connections to film. Some visitors regret missing out on potential events or performances.

"The historic theater is open daily from 9am to 5pm for viewing. It was just 200 yen per person to enter, and the attendant was so friendly and helpful. He explained to us the history of the building, showed us trapdoor tunnel to the stage, and played some traditional music to recreate the feel of when the theater performed Kabuki plays. We didn't have many expectations when we stopped by, but were so glad that we did! Definitely worth the small entry fee to see this piece of history. Wish we could come back when there is a concert or event scheduled to see it on action."

"We come too late as most of the shops have closed. Nevertheless this is worth to go with such an unique historical place at Japan"

Elaine Ip

"The theater is located just across the river, passing east through the Udatsu streets of Wakimachi.
As it was early on a weekday, there were no other visitors, and the director (or someone I thought was the director) gave us a detailed explanation.
And, as a token of our appreciation for having come all the way, he drew the standard Kabuki curtain at the end.
It's strange how just one curtain can completely change the atmosphere inside the theater."
