Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Kasamatsu Park for its breathtaking views of Amanohashidate, often calling it a 'bridge to heaven'. The chairlift and cable car rides are highlighted as enjoyable experiences, and the unique 'matanozoki' pose is a memorable activity. While the journey can be long, most agree it's well worth the effort for the serene natural beauty.

"It’s a long ride from Osaka, but it’s worth it. It’s beautiful and it’s much calmer than the city. The weather was so so, but we still enjoyed nice views and everything was well organised. I opted for the chair lift up and down, I believe you get a better view of the scenery. The observatory at the top is wonderful, and there is a restaurant up there but also many options down by the lift entrance.
I also enjoyed going for a walk on the sandbank, it’s beautiful with all the pines and the water on both sides.
If you can come, don’t miss the opportunity."

André Marques

"Amazing views! No need to spend $$ for the lift (though looks fun), it's easy stairs to walk up if you have the stamina. It closes at 5pm, and if you come later (for sunset) you might be completely alone."

Jakub Tomášek

"♡ Chair/Cable rides free unlimited for those with pass tickets ♡
Up on top, they have connected walk way up to the mountains and bus stop as well. With souvenir shop and small snack stalls.
This government-operated park is less like an amusement type like the opposite one."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Experiencing Amanohashidate from Kasamatsu Park

Kasamatsu Park is renowned as the northern viewpoint for Amanohashidate, one of Japan's 'Three Great Views'. The park's main draw is its unique perspective of the sandbar, which, when viewed from the park's observation deck using the 'matanozoki' pose (looking upside down between your legs), resembles a dragon flying across the water. This quirky tradition is a must-try for visitors and offers a memorable photo opportunity. Instagram+1

The journey to the park itself is part of the experience. Visitors can choose between a scenic chairlift or a cable car to ascend the slope. The single-seat chairlift offers an exhilarating, open-air ride with unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape and the sea, making it a popular choice for those seeking a bit of adventure and stunning vistas. Instagram+1

Beyond the iconic view, Kasamatsu Park offers a tranquil escape from the bustling cities. The area around the park is characterized by quiet streets and beautiful natural scenery, especially during autumn when the foliage adds vibrant colors. For those who enjoy walking, exploring the famous sandbar with its thousands of pine trees is a highly recommended activity. Reddit

Getting Around: Chairlift vs. Cable Car

When visiting Kasamatsu Park, you have two primary options for reaching the viewpoint: the chairlift and the cable car. The chairlift is a single-seat, open-air ride that provides an immersive experience with direct exposure to the elements and panoramic views. It's often described as peaceful and a great way to soak in the scenery. Instagram+1

The cable car offers a more enclosed and traditional ride, suitable for those who prefer a bit more security or are traveling with younger children. Both options provide access to the park's observation decks and are a key part of the visitor experience. The choice often comes down to personal preference for thrill versus comfort. Instagram+1

Many visitors recommend taking the chairlift up and the cable car down, or vice versa, to experience both. Some reviews suggest that the chairlift offers slightly better views due to its open nature, but both are highly enjoyable. Instagram
