Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Yamato no Yu Onsen for its diverse pools, relaxing atmosphere, and tattoo-friendly policy. However, the access via public transport is frequently noted as challenging, with recommendations leaning towards driving or pre-booking taxis. Some guests also mention the restaurant's occasional closure.

"This is my favorite day hot spring.
Access isn’t great so best to drive here.

You can relax in the public open hot spring or rent the private onsen

The private onsen is charged by the hour and booking is required pictures"

"3 floors of inside and outside baths. Different temperatures and also different minerals by the look. There’s places to rest and relax outside in the sun. Showers are located on each floor.
The top floor has a cold plunge pool, sauna and hot bed area as well as an inside bath with spa area.
Second floor has an inside and outside bath and many showers. Also a couple of outside chairs to relax.
First floor has 2 showers and a plunge pool, spa and outdoor area for relaxing.
Can be hard to access as the directions state if you take the train you can get off at the station before and take a taxi from the taxi rank, but the taxis are not there waiting and none passed. I ended up getting back on the train and getting off at the nearest station, it’s then a good 20 min walk to the baths on a flat road. But the road is narrow and no actual footpath.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, and ordered the taxi for me to take back to the main train, only 10 min away.
I had wanted to eat at the restaurant but it was closed on the day that I went.
I would go again, but try to pre order a taxi before I left on the train."

"Such a lovely scenic area to have an onsen, especially once the weather starts to cool down a bit. I loved the different pools which you could use, and when I went (just before 5pm), it was practically empty!

I was quite confused at first, but the locker key is within the wristband that they give you with the number on it. The showers are also outside and are on every floor, so you dont have to worry (I spent quite a lot of time looking for one around the changing room!)

I recommend that you bring your own small towel (or buy one there as a souvenir), and DEFINITELY bring body lotion/moisturiser as it can get quite drying from the hot water! People also usually bring water bottles in as to remain hydrated, and even books for entertainment if you’re a solo traveller! Dont make the same mistakes I did 😖

There are also lovely areas to relax after your onsen outside the locker rooms which was quite serene."
