What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular, unobstructed views of Mount Fuji, especially from a unique rock outcrop perfect for lunch. While the summit itself is forested, the journey offers numerous scenic spots. Hikers appreciate the connection to other famous peaks and the natural beauty, though some note the signage can be challenging for non-Japanese speakers.
"Nice open area on a peak on the trail to Mt. Mitsutoge. There is a small trail off to the side where there is a rock outcrop atop a cliff. Good spot for lunch with amazing views of both Mt. Fuji and Mt. Mitsutoge. There is a trail junction here with multiple trail options. Sign is in Japanese only."

"Mt. Kinashi, along with Mt. Kaiun and Mt. Osutaka, are collectively known as the Mitsutoge Pass, but of the three, it feels the least like a peak. If you traverse from the direction of Mt. Kaiun, it feels like a drop-off point when descending along the ridge, and there is a sign for the summit of Mt. Kinashi hanging from a tree.
The summit of Mt. Kinashi itself doesn't offer much of a view, but there are many viewpoints of Mt. Fuji between it and Mt. Kaiun. When I visited during the autumn foliage season, it wasn't a brilliant clear day, but there were hanging clouds over Mt. Fuji, which created a lovely atmosphere."

"Together with the nearby Mount Osutaka and Mount Kaiun, this mountain makes up Mount Mitsutoge.
I visited it as part of my efforts to conquer the 300 Famous Mountains of Japan.
Contrary to its name, the summit is covered in forest so there isn't much of a view, but if you move a little towards Mount Kaiun there are observation decks and other scenic spots.
It has been designated one of the 300 Famous Mountains of Japan, the 100 Famous Mountains of Yamanashi, and one of the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji!"
