Shin-Osaka, Osaka - I recently had a 2 week trip in Japan, and decided to buy myself a Canon EOS 5 Film camera and take it with me, along with my Canon EOS R5 camera. It was my first time using film and I absolutely loved it, such a fun medium to work with. This is a shot I took as I stood on the platform at Osaka station waiting for my bullet train back to Tokyo.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Osaka's vibrant atmosphere, delicious and affordable street food, and efficient public transport. The city's unique districts like Dotonbori and Shinsekai offer endless exploration and photo opportunities. While generally positive, some find the sheer scale of stations like Shin-Osaka a bit overwhelming initially.

"Smooth Travels Through Shin-Osaka Station – A Model of Japanese Efficiency

If you’re planning a trip through Japan, chances are you’ll pass through Shin-Osaka Station — and let me tell you, it’s an experience worth talking about.

From the moment I stepped into the station, I was struck by how well-organized and efficient everything was. The signage is clear in both Japanese and English, making navigation stress-free even for first-time visitors. Whether you’re heading to Tokyo on the Shinkansen (bullet train) or transferring to a local line, everything is streamlined to keep you moving with ease.

The station is clean, modern, and surprisingly calm despite being a major transport hub. Staff members are polite and helpful, always ready to assist with directions or ticket inquiries. The ticket machines are easy to use, and the entire boarding process is smooth — platforms are clearly marked, and trains arrive on time to the second.

One thing I truly appreciated was how orderly the boarding system is. Passengers line up neatly, no pushing or crowding, and there’s a genuine respect for personal space. Inside the train, seats are clean, spacious, and comfortable — perfect for relaxing or catching up on some work while gliding across the country at high speed.

In summary, Shin-Osaka Station is more than just a transit point — it’s a perfect introduction to Japan’s culture of precision and hospitality. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or just starting your journey through Japan, this station sets the tone for what to expect: calm, convenience, and world-class organization."

"The shinkansen is more than just a fast bullet train, its an experience. We took the opportunity to ride in the green car (coach) green car is the more premium coach with a touch of luxury in the comfort department. Instead of the normal 5 seats in a row it has only 4 seats. The seats are also more plush and it has a powered reclining functions. There are also special staff for this green car that will assist you. The row also can be rotated if you wanna face your friends and family of the row behind you.

One work etiquette that I am very impressed with the Japanese is each staff that enter and exit each coach (they called it car) they will bow. During entering and exiting the car.

The shin osaka station can be quite busy during peak hours. But their staff as usual are attentive and helpful."

"The Shinkansen isn’t just fast transport — it’s a quiet, clean, and oddly calming experience that gives you a real sense of how Japan does things differently.

I boarded at Shin-Osaka Station, which is easy to navigate with clear signage in English and plenty of staff around. The bullet train pulled in right on time — no fuss, no noise — just a sleek arrival and a gentle boarding process.

Book in advance if you want a reserved seat, especially by the window. If you don’t reserve, you’ll need to queue early and head to the unreserved cars (usually the ones at the rear of the train). These fill up quickly during peak hours, so don’t assume you’ll get a seat unless you’re near the front of the line.

Prices vary by route:
• Osaka to Tokyo is around ¥14,000 (roughly AUD $170)
• Osaka to Kyoto is just ¥1,400 (about AUD $18) and takes around 15 minutes

Once you’re on board, the carriage is almost silent. What stood out most is how people actually eat and drink on the train — bento boxes, tea, even beer — and yet it’s spotless and respectful. No noise, no rubbish, no smells. It works because people treat the space with care.

It’s the kind of public transport that makes you reflect on what’s possible. Not luxury — just thoughtful design and mutual respect. The ride itself is smooth, fast, and strangely peaceful.

If you’re travelling in Japan, it’s worth experiencing — not just to get from A to B, but to see how something as ordinary as a train ride can feel meaningful."
