What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Ter Horst Castle for its authentic historical charm and the dedication of its volunteers. While some note it's not a large attraction, its unique status as a privately owned castle and the direct contribution to restoration efforts make it a worthwhile visit for a few hours.
"Wonderful little castle that's one of the last few privately owned in the Netherlands. Historically beautiful and left to much of the original style and comfort that it had. It is mostly used as a wedding venue, and it has a couple of small businesses that rent out a room in one of the original carriage houses."
Bryan Veldkamp
"While not the biggest castle you can visit in this area, it is one with an interesting history and the volunteers that work here are very dedicated.
The castle includes some nice paintings, including some official portraits of queen Wilhelmina, and gives some insight in how these sorts of castles were used hundreds of years ago.
If you are in the area and want to spend a couple of hours this is definitely a recommendation, and the 6 euros that it costs to follow the tour will directly be used for further restoration of the castle.
Do pay attention that the tours are only given on Thursdays and special holidays."
