Natural sights to see around West Coast Auckland?
I moved to Whenuapai recently and I'm looking for things to do. I love nature and history. For example I saw the gannet colony at Muriwai a few days ago (wow, breath taking!). so yeah, any recommendations appreciated!

"We took the grandchildren here (7 and 5) at their request. The art and the building are phenomenal. The grandchildren liked the stairs, the elevators and the learning area the best, but we spent a very happy hour there!"

"Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery is an absolute gem! This is the place to come to if you want to experience new and contemporary art. They change their exhibits and installations often, to make every visit fresh and interesting.
Your personal taste will inform the visit. Some contemporary installation are brilliantly inspired and inspiring, and showcases local New Zealand history and artists. Although I could appreciate the passion and effort that went into creating those works of art, I just didn't "get" some of the pieces.
The building itself is an architectural marvel. It also offers beautiful outside views, displaying the wooded areas and the harbour as art itself.
Well worth a visit!"
