"I lived at the village by the Mill before it closed down, I have no idea when it closed down, I left the Island in May 1980 to go to Australia, I had a great time on the Island and the fishing on the ocean side was very good, I had a Hamilton jet boat to get me to the main land, My Bosses name was D Lett. I worked in the forestry. Sorry I have no photos but lots of good times."

"Today we took our motorbike accross to Matakana Is. This was our first time to the Island. We rode around stopping a few times. We stopped at St Josephs to admire the church and were very respectful, we didn't go into the graveyard. While there a group of locals turned up to mow the lawns. They were rude, one in particular was abusive telling us to get off the land. Not a nice experience and we definately won't be visiting again"
