What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally enjoy the Little River Rail Trail for its accessibility and scenic beauty, particularly the historic Motukarara Railway Station. While the flat terrain and gravel surface are appreciated by many, the frequent gates are a recurring point of minor frustration. The birdlife and peaceful atmosphere are consistently praised.
"Pleased I've done it but it's not one I would aspire to doing again. A few too many gates to open.
Aside from gates that boarder roads, which is understandable, correctly constructed cattle stops would prevent animals from crossing. The gates are either overkill or said cattle stops has been incorrectly constructed. The Birdlife was lovely"

"Great little entrance in the historic Motukarara Railway Station. Good road signs to come in off the Akaroa Highway. From this point the track follows the old rail course so beautiful sweeping views even if the riding isnt hugely exciting. There is water here and even some bike racks and points to tie up your horse while you wait for the next train to come."

"Great weekend ride to Little River."
