Come hike Hermannsdalstinden in Lofoten with me! 🥾It’s the highest peak in southern Lofoten, at 1029m. The hike is almost 20k, so a lot of people choose to hike to Munkebu to either stay or tent. I chose that option, and would highly recommend spending a night with the view. Even with the head start the hike was long and steep, so make sure to bring good boots and start early if you’re not hiking ...

Munken Nordtopp and the sharp Munken peak rise above Reine in the Lofoten islands 🇳🇴. The trail starts from Sørvågen with an easy T2 approach towards Munkebu hut. After that, the terrain quickly turns serious with T4 sections up to the northern summit 🧗‍♂️. North of the Arctic Circle you never get “easy” conditions. Either frozen and snow covered ❄️, or – like this time – soaked, muddy and slippe...

Reviews Summary

Hermannsdalstinden is hailed as the most challenging yet rewarding hike in Lofoten, offering unparalleled summit views. While the technical ascent and boulder scrambling are demanding, the panoramic vistas of mountains, lakes, and fjords make the effort worthwhile. Many recommend an overnight stay to fully appreciate the experience, especially during the magical summer nights. InstagramReddit

"Without a doubt the most challenging and at the same time rewarding hike in all of Lofoten. It took around 6 hours to reach the top from the parking lot.

The trail has a lot of variety, changing from steep sections, where chains are to be used as a support to long sections of flat surface by crystal clear lakes.

From the top you're able to see almost whole of Lofoten and its amazing mountains. Access to drinking water is along the path until the last climb to the top, which took bit under 2hrs."

"Mindblowing view from the top. Fantastic overview over surrounding mountains, lakes and fjords. Got caught in a cloud and it felt like an "airplane" view. Technical ascent with the top consisting of big boulders. Dangerous when wet. Much hiking and very basic climbing experience are advisable."

Felix Wursthorn

"You have to climb this peak! It is the second highest on Lofoten only by some tens of metres, and the highest in the west of Lofoten. I climbed here both through cloud and on a sunny day, and I can honestly say that the cloudy hike (taken at night time) was the most memorable hike of my life. Ascending through fog to gaze over a sea of cloud and view the sunset from what felt like the top of the world... I suddenly realised that the daunting 12-hour round trip from Reine was so very worth it! It can take more than this, so I recommend planning it as a 2-day hike, camping either at Munkebu or (preferably) somewhere higher up, towards the peak. It is really a hard slog after Munkebu. I highly recommend going at night during the summer, when it never gets dark. Be sure to rest well during the day, and yes, do make sure that it really will not get dark on the day of your hike!"
