What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Praia da Laje Seixal is lauded for its dramatic volcanic beauty, unique black sand, and refreshing natural rock pools. Visitors appreciate the stunning scenery and the opportunity for a dip in the clear waters, especially when the sea is calm. However, the powerful waves and rocky terrain mean it's not ideal for casual sunbathing or swimming for the inexperienced.
"We went swimming and snorkelling here! It was lovely, we saw nice marine life and even an octopus. We went on a super warm and calm day in October so there were only small waves and a slight current. Never go in this water if you can’t swim well and be aware that going in and back out are quite dangerous due to the big rocks. Usually the waves and current are strong here so be careful"

"Stones & rocks. No people! Shower available. Bar near by. Possible to swim in the natural pools in the rocks."

"Seixal is a small but very picturesque coastal village on the island of Madeira.
Seixal is famous for its beaches. Praia da Laje beach is covered with black, sparkling and surprisingly soft sand. The absence of waves, the crystal clear water, the rocks covered with lush vegetation and the waterfalls falling over them complete the list of Seixal's advantages.
The calmness of the water in the lagoon is monitored by a breakwater installed on the right side of the beach. The gently sloping shore, smoothly turning into the ocean, relieves the fear of little swimmers."
