What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find the Bușteni-Babele cable car a worthwhile experience for its stunning mountain views and access to unique rock formations, despite its high cost and potential for long queues. The unpredictable mountain weather necessitates careful preparation with warm clothing.
"Good choice in winter when you wanna get up to the mountains from Busteni. Trails are closed due to avalanches danger sooo we had to choose overpriced old cable car, but nice employee though. Recommend some trails up there. Bar is ok, warm during winter time, staff is chilled but don’t speak English that much. Beverages and food are kinda pricey as well. Good starting point for hikes but be careful - November can be already tricky, be prepared for snow and even the weather forecast doesn’t have to be true :)"

"It’s a nice experience
With this cabs
Some time when it’s windy the cabs doesn’t work
You have to wait a while
In front of this are many people who offer you some excursions
For me is better to wait till wind is stop and go up with cable car 🚠"

"Not a pleasant experiance, expensive , super long lines (hours), slow, can't see well as the windows are plastic or so so it made the view from the cable car very blurred. And yeah, if u go, get jackets, its cold there and windy. Good news there are shops up there for water and food, and they are not expensive. Prepare your self to hick a bit as you need to walk a bit for a good view."

Navigating the Bușteni-Babele Cable Car Experience
However, the experience is not without its challenges. The cable car is frequently described as overpriced, with round-trip tickets costing a significant amount. Furthermore, long queues are a common complaint, especially during peak tourist seasons and weekends, leading to considerable waiting times. Travelers often advise checking the weather forecast and being prepared for rapidly changing conditions at the summit, as wind can halt operations and temperatures are considerably lower than in the valley.
Despite the cost and potential queues, the unique rock formations of the Sphinx and Babele, along with the impressive Heroes' Cross on Caraiman Peak, make the trip worthwhile for many. It serves as an excellent starting point for further hikes into the Bucegi Mountains, allowing visitors to explore more remote areas if they are adequately prepared.
Exploring the Bucegi Plateau: Beyond the Cable Car
For those with a spirit of adventure, the Babele plateau is a crucial hiking hub. From here, you can embark on treks to other significant landmarks within the Bucegi Mountains. A popular route leads to the Heroes' Cross on Caraiman Peak, a colossal monument visible from afar, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Another challenging but rewarding destination is Omul Peak, the highest point in the Bucegi Mountains, which requires a good level of fitness and preparedness for mountain conditions.
It's essential to remember that the weather on the plateau can be unpredictable and harsh. Even during summer, temperatures can drop significantly, and strong winds are common. Visitors are strongly advised to wear warm, layered clothing and sturdy footwear, regardless of the forecast in the valley. The plateau itself requires some walking to reach the best viewpoints and formations, so comfortable shoes are a must.
