Reviews Summary

La Soufrière offers a challenging yet incredibly rewarding adventure for those seeking a true test of endurance and a glimpse of raw natural power. Hikers consistently praise the breathtaking summit views and the unique volcanic landscape, though the demanding terrain and potential lack of facilities are noted drawbacks.

"We did the hike from the Windward side and it was an unforgettable adventure. The side road to the trailhead is a bit uneven with some potholes, but it’s definitely manageable.
Upon arrival, there’s a fee (5us per person) to enter the volcano area, and you can hire a knowledgeable guide. Our guide was exceptional, Short man, he made sure we felt safe and well informed throughout the hike.
The trail itself is well-maintained, with bamboo and wooden steps making the climb easier. However, the hike does intensify as you approach the summit, especially during the last hour of the ascent, where the terrain becomes more rugged and exposed. It’s a challenging climb that definitely requires a good fitness level. We took 2hrs and 40mins to the top.
Reaching the summit, about 3,000 feet high, is rewarding. The panoramic views are breathtaking and makes the hike worthwhile. The crater itself is mesmerizing, with steam vents and a small pond.
The descent was quicker, taking about 1hr 20mins, and we enjoyed the flexibility of a private tour. Our guide kept us engaged and was very kind. They have washroom facilities availability.
This hike is a must do for adventure seekers it's challenging but incredibly rewarding, and I highly recommend it"

"Experienced guide highly recommend especially on Leward trail which is unmarked and dangerous.
Windward trail is well marked and looked after on the other side."

"One of the best and most impressive hikes in my life! The leeward hiking trail is not officially open as of December 2024 but you can still make it if you are fit and well prepared. It's also definitely not for the beginners (if you are unsure, you can take the easier Windward trail). Be aware that cross-country route is not available and perhaps won't be available in the future due to unstable ground at the crater. The trail also lacks clear markings, it's difficult to find the starting point after crossing the river but afterwards it's quite intuitive where to go. Last hundred meters are very demanding due to steep incline, unstable ground, changing weather, strong cold winds and sulfur smell. The place feels very remote so take somebody in company if you want to feel safer. Start early if you want to make it to the top and come back before the dusk, it took me 5-6 hours in total. Good luck, the views are really rewarding!!"
