What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Kostanjevica Monastery for its unique historical significance as the burial site of French royalty and its beautiful Bourbon rose garden. The panoramic views over Gorizia are also a major draw. However, some find the monastery's accessibility challenging, with potential for being overlooked by large tour groups and limited information for independent visitors.
"The monastery is definitely a highlight of Nova Gorica. It offers a beautiful view over Italian Gorizia, which makes the visit absolutely worthwhile. The town of Nova Gorica itself feels rather gray and a bit strange due to its Yugoslav-era concrete architecture, but the peaceful atmosphere and the scenery around the monastery make up for it. The best about Nova Gorica is Gorizia, sorry Slovenia …"

"Interesting how the last french king found his resting place in Slovenia. He is actually only one outside France. When forced to fled France je was wandering all over Europe and finally came to count of Gorica. France wants him back but his last will was never to return. The monastery is famous for this, but you must see their library and famous rose garden. The monks created bourbon rose here named after....Guess who. For library you need to take a apointment."

"A must see if you are in Gorizia / Nova Gorica region.
This is where the tomb of the last king of French Bourbon dynasty is situated, connected to an interesting story, how they even got here.
Ask for mrs. Miriam, she is a great story teller in a simple and humorous way.
Make sure to visit library too."
