What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Tsitsikamma Blackwater Tubing for its fun, adventurous nature and the stunning scenery of the Storms River Gorge. Guides are frequently highlighted as knowledgeable and friendly, enhancing the overall experience. Some reviewers noted that longer routes require good fitness and that the final row out of the gorge can be challenging.
"Lots of fun for the whole family. Well informed guides. They even have hot showers available for after tubing session."
Gaenor Udemans
"Always been on my bucket list...we were a little disappointed, but probably because it was different than what we expected. Floating down the gorge and rapids were mostly fun.
We did one cliff jump which was great, the rest were all tube jumps. Felt the guides could have given people a bit more guidance here. Most people jumped with their tubes level to the water which definitely hurt them a little (as opposed to jumping slightly angled like a banana).
The trip ended with a very long backwards row out the gorge. This spoiled the experience for me and now all I remember about the trip i.e. it is a long and hard row out that will leave your muscle sore for a day or two. We did the LONG red route, my suggestion would be to rather consider the shorter routes."

"Such a great experience!
We did the red tour (6 hours in total, about 4.5 on the river) with a small group of 4 people. Our guides, Richard and Justin, were amazing!! They deserve a raise 👏🏻 Very experienced and fun.
Water levels were sufficiently high but there was a bit of climbing in-between pools, as well. So a decent level of fitness is recommended.
The views and nature down at the river are just beautiful. We loved every second of our tour, thank you guys!
Cheers, Eva & Julien"

This extended adventure involves more significant stretches of river, potential climbing between pools, and a considerable amount of rowing to exit the gorge. While it offers a deeper immersion into the dramatic landscapes, it requires a good level of fitness and stamina. Visitors often recommend considering their physical condition carefully when selecting this longer tour.
Regardless of the route chosen, experienced guides are a constant. They are crucial for safety, providing instruction on navigating rapids and jumps, and ensuring an enjoyable experience. Their knowledge of the river and its surroundings significantly enhances the adventure.
What to Expect on the River
Beyond the river itself, the surrounding environment is a major draw. You'll be immersed in the dramatic scenery of the Storms River Gorge, with its towering cliffs and lush vegetation. The Plaatbos Indigenous Forest, accessible on certain routes, offers a chance to connect with ancient trees and unique flora. The experience is often punctuated by opportunities for controlled jumps into the river, adding an element of excitement.
While the adventure is designed to be fun, it's important to be prepared. The river can be dynamic, and some sections may involve navigating obstacles or a significant amount of rowing, particularly on longer routes. The guides play a vital role in managing these aspects, ensuring participants are safe and can make the most of the natural beauty and thrilling moments.
Capturing Your Tsitsikamma Memories
