What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the National Theater of Korea for its diverse and high-quality performances, particularly its musicals and traditional Korean arts. The architecture is also frequently highlighted as a point of interest. However, some find ticket prices to be on the higher side for certain shows.
"Visited the National Theater of Korea and was thoroughly impressed! The place is huge, offering multiple performance halls that host a variety of traditional and contemporary shows. The facilities, including bathrooms, are well-maintained, and the lawns are spotlessly cared for, creating a welcoming environment. We enjoyed some beverages from the nearby cafe, which were delightful. Additionally, the accessibility is top-notch with a bus stop right in front that makes it super convenient for visitors. Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience Korea's rich performing arts culture!"

"The National Theater of Korea is a major cultural center in Seoul dedicated to performing arts like traditional Korean music, dance, and theater. Located on Namsan Mountain, it’s a beautiful spot that offers visitors great views of the city. The theater hosts a wide range of shows, from traditional Korean performances to modern plays and concerts, making it a popular place for locals and tourists alike to experience Korean culture.
The building itself is large and impressive, with multiple stages and performance spaces. Inside, you’ll find theaters of different sizes, as well as exhibition spaces, a cafe, and areas to relax. People can enjoy high-quality performances here or simply visit to learn more about Korea’s rich artistic heritage. The National Theater of Korea is a must-visit for anyone interested in the performing arts and Korean traditions."

"I enjoyed La Traviata, at National Theater of Korea, Seoul, Haeoreum Grand Theater dated September 21, 2023 and Joyous Resonance dated January 5-6, 2024 and L'italiana in Algeri dated February 25, 2024.
Yes, it is one of the biggest theaters in S. Korea that finished renovation in 2021. It looks good and clean but it needs more effort to be a top-tier theater. Further, if you wish to bring your children there, many things must be considered prior to buying tickets.
Without further ado, its accessibility is not good. Even though this theater is in the middle of Seoul, it is located halfway up Namsan Mountain. You have to use a bus, e.g. no. 420, to reach there. Imagine using a crowded bus with your kids to enjoy an opera and/or concert? You will be exhausted before reaching there. It is not a walking distance from the nearest Seoul subway line no.3, Dongguk university station.
Considering the one of the purposes of a theater is to provide good and friendly service to the public, many people will not be entertained with this.
For your information, this theater has L, 1, 2 and 3 floors. Each floor has vending machine for water and soft drinks. On the floor L, there is a restaurant named Central yunit which has many available seats, on the other hand, looks expensive. And KB bank ATM machine as well. The box office is located on the 1st floor which is the 2nd floor to me. There is a small cafe that sells sandwiches and coffee. For floor naming, this theater is following the UK system. The box office opens 1 hour prior to the show. It has a cloakroom opposite the box office. The staff will request your ticket to put a numbering sticker on the backside of it. There are also many seats for its audiences for intermission.
After finishing the opera, I used a shuttle bus which drops off its audiences at Dongkook university station and Dongdaemun history and culture park station. If you fail to ride in it, the next bus will be provided for 20 to 25 minutes later. Enjoy."
