Mae Kampong hit different 🏔️

Just an hour ride from Chiang Mai (we took our bike but buses run there too) and you’re in this peaceful mountain village that feels like a completely different world.

We packed so much into one day - hiking, waterfalls, coffee plantations, amazing food - but honestly loved it so much we stayed the night.

If you’re in Chiang Mai and need to escape the city for a b...

Reviews Summary

Mae Kampong Village is a highly recommended peaceful mountain retreat near Chiang Mai, praised for its traditional charm, lush nature, and refreshing atmosphere. Visitors love the scenic views from cafes, the tranquil riverside homestays, and the opportunity to disconnect. Some find the roads challenging and parking difficult, and overnight stays can be on the pricier side.

"Google maps will take you right to the middle of the village but there is more to see and do both before and after the arrival point. Do your research before you go so you know what you’re looking for and where you want to go because there’s not many signs around and the map is unclear. All the reviews on the road in are correct. Wear comfortable shoes, there’s lots of walking and hills. The people are lovely and this place is so gorgeous. We didn’t “eat in” although everywhere has stunning views, we chose to eat our way down the village with the street food on offer. That prices are very reasonable, we thought they would be a little higher but were pleasantly surprised. Make sure you’s top by summers pig intestines! They weren’t for my pallets but she was a barrel of laughs and is a lot of fun."

"We went on a rainy day during the rainy season, which was actually great, since there were not too many people there. I can see how it would be very crowded in the winter dry season. Very cool village way up in the mountains. If you can drive yourself that would be best. The road up is good, even in the rain. The best part besides the street food was the small temple on the river. Definitely check that out."

"Sleepy little town a stone throw away from Chiang Mai

Charming little mountain town tucked away in the eastern hillside of Chaingmai. About 45mins from CM old town to reach here but you feel like you are in a totally different city.

I love how you have this enclave of wooden houses with stream running alongside the entire town. The nature sound of running water and forest insects the moment you step away from the shops is breathtaking.

One for the nature lover and small town explorer."
