What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rassada Pier serves as a vital transit point for island travel, with many visitors appreciating its role as a gateway to popular destinations like Koh Phi Phi. The convenience of booking ferries and the availability of onward transport are often highlighted. However, some find the pier itself to be basic and can be quite crowded during peak times.
"Small port from which you can get boat to different directions, especially Thai islands. In my case we was traveling to Phi-Phi island. And I have some tips for you:
1. Do not buy tickets in advance, at lease in the low season, as there is a lot of tickets available and you can be flexible with time to departure;
2. Come to pier in 1 hour before departure is enough, even more than enough;
3. If you have time or want to have comfortable ride take big boat, not speedy one. You will have good time to look around and enjoy your ride. They even have small market to buy some food or drinks;
4. If you are limited in time, take speedy boat. It will cost little more, but not too much. Ride will take 1 hour and it is cool, but you will be very limited in space in the boat and sound from engines would be very loud. Do not recommend this for people with children. But it is also fine overall;
5. If you need exchange money there is exchange office at the pier with good rates."

"A small, well-maintained harbor used for island hopping around Phuket. Clean and organized, making departures smooth and hassle-free"
Deepak Pokhrel
"Good port of departure from Pucket to the islands, well organized departure and arrival system, somewhat chaotic at the exit with the vans or taxis, be careful with the rates, they ask a lot to close before each trip"

Navigating Transportation to Rassada Pier
Some ferry companies offer included transfers as part of their ticket package, especially for popular routes to islands like Koh Phi Phi. It's always worth inquiring about this when booking your ferry ticket, as it can simplify your journey significantly. If your ferry ticket doesn't include a transfer, be prepared to arrange your own transport. Local taxis are an option, but again, Grab and Bolt are often preferred for their transparency in pricing and availability.
For those looking for the absolute cheapest way to get to Phi Phi Island, Reddit discussions often point to taking a Bolt ride to Rassada Pier and purchasing a return ticket directly from the office at the pier. Ferry Travel from Rassada Pier
The ferries themselves range from larger, more stable vessels to speedboats. Many travelers opt for the larger ferries for a more comfortable journey, especially if they are prone to seasickness. Some videos showcase the experience of enjoying the sea breeze and views from the deck. It's advisable to arrive at the pier at least 30-60 minutes before your scheduled departure to allow time for check-in, finding your gate, and boarding.
Upon arrival at your island destination, you'll often find onward transportation options readily available, such as songthaews or motorbike taxis. If you're returning to Phuket, the process is reversed, and you'll disembark at Rassada Pier, ready to arrange your onward journey to the airport or your accommodation.
