Reviews Summary

Eleuthera is lauded as a hidden gem for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty, with stunning, often deserted beaches and a relaxed 'island time' vibe. While some find the lack of modern amenities and the need for cash inconvenient, the friendly locals and breathtaking scenery make it a highly recommended escape for disconnecting.

"I spent 3 days and nights here. Things you need to know before coming out here: This is not a very modern island. Most places only take cash. Bring lots of cash, at least $250 per visiting day per couple. There are only a couple ATMs on the island. Many restaurants are out of people's homes. There are a few nice restaurants on the island. There are no big-name hotels. There is a very nice resort that was $1000 per night. I chose to rent an Air BnB for $75 per night. It was more than adequate. We went on a tour boat to see different parts of the island, swim with pigs, feed stingrays, and sea turtles. The people on the island are very friendly. Don't expect people to be in a rush for you, this includes restaurant staff. People here are on island time. There are places to rent cars, but they are typically older cars that are in rough condition, and are being rented by individuals on the island. There are many nice places to visit, including the Queen's Pool, Preacher Cave, and numerous beaches. If you're lucky, you might run into Lenny Kravitz. He lives on this island. And finally, the airport is like something out of a third world country. It is tiny, and behind the times. Give yourself at least 2 hours before boarding."

"It's heavenly with a beach to yourself! We visited in hurricane season but got lucky with the weather. Restaurants were mostly closed, so we prepared to cook our own. The supermarket in South near Rock sound had the most choices and was reasonably priced. Do carry deet for sandflies at dusk and dawn!"

Moki Anji

"This island is very rural with few restaurants and resorts. If you are looking for a quiet place with gorgeous, secluded beaches this is it. Except for Harbor Island where the wealthy visit, the scenery here is typical island scrub and the towns are very rustic with run-down buildings. The grocery stores are small and the prices are quite high since this is an island. We found the most well stocked store was near the airport on the north end of the island. There are no-seeum bugs at dusk which can be very annoying. The electricity goes off frequently for short periods of time. The roads are not great and people drive on the left side which takes a little while to get used to. Renting a 4 wheel drive car is a must unless you are staying in a resort. We were happy to stay right on the ocean in an Airbnb because the view was spectacular. We found Rainbow Bay Beach and French Leave Beach to be the easiest and most beautiful to visit if you are staying in the north central part of the island."
