Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Stratonikeia Ancient City for its unique historical layering, where ancient, Ottoman, and Republican-era structures coexist. The ongoing restoration is seen as a positive development, enhancing understanding of the site. Many appreciate the blend of history, architecture, and the opportunity to experience local flavors like gozleme.

"The Ancient City of Stratonikeia is an exceptionally unique place located at
Eskihisar, Eskihisar sokak no 269, 48500 Yatağan/Muğla. It was historically an ancient settlement dating back to the Carian and Roman periods. Lots of reconstruction is ongoing at the location. It appears to be developing into a strange resort of some sort and is one of the rare places where the structure and urban texture of the Ancient Period and the Ottoman and Republican Periods can be seen together. They all flow together and visitors or historians must keep a sharp eye out."

"As a tour guide, I’ve been visiting this space with groups since 2021, and wow! So much work has been done these last several years. This site is getting the attention it deserves. The ancient theatre is now undergoing extensive restoration. The visible repair helps you see which parts of the site are old and which parts are new. I really love walking around the site and seeing all of the little details in the carved marble and the recent discoveries!"

Yeshe Meryemana Matthews

"Nice city, several cafes in there as well with seating areas. A few Seljuk era buildings thrown in as well. Nice view from the top of the theatre which is currently being renovated. Theres mirrors dotted about which you can use to get some good insta shots. Don't miss a VERY tasty cheese and potato gozleme from the short lady who has a stall next to the car park. Quite friendly and chatty, even though our turkish was limited."
