Ideas for countryside eateries and places for high tea please.
Hello all, I have family visiting and I'm looking to take my mother-in-law and granny-in-law out for a meal in a nice setting. I was thinking a quaint village or a nice countryside or waterside pub. Somewhere that breathers character and age. Also, on another day, I'd love to…

Looking for a few recommendations for days out this spring/summer in Essex please. We like places that we can take the dog to, go for a wander and grab coffee/lunch. We like Leigh On Sea, Billericay, Stock but want to broaden our horizons.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Paper Mill Lock's converted stable tearoom for its exceptional allergy-friendly options and delicious food, particularly toasties and cakes. The relaxing boat trips and pleasant waterside walking trails are also highlights, contributing to a tranquil and charming atmosphere. While parking is convenient for tearoom patrons, spaces can be limited, and some find the cafe prices on the higher side.
"Lovely place to visit. Good selection of beverages and food. Prices you'd expect from most food outlets. A bonus is the free car park which allows you 2 hours. Plenty of time for a walk along the river and a hot drink and snack. Great friendly staff. Happy to recommend."

"Lovely gem of a place. Tea Room is pleasant, with a great selection of cakes and sandwiches, teas and coffee, icecream etc. Unfortunately no hot soup or similar hot options, but that's a minor criticism. Staff are friendly and helpful, and if you're using the tearoom there's parking too for 2 hours (though limited in spaces). The boat rides along the river are pleasant, relaxing and well priced. Access is ok for those with walkers, if they can navigate a few steps onto the narrowboat Albert, and there is ramp access to the larger Victoria.
Well worth a visit"

"Had the most delicious lunch at the Tearooms with my sister. We both have an allergy to dairy and she has additional gluten and wheat, yet they offer options to cater for our needs and we ate the best toasties and cake (!!) we’ve enjoyed out since I can’t remember when! The location is fabulous and luckily they have their own car park, 2 hours stay was more than we needed, so didnt need to park on road outside. Staff were fantastic in serving us, and the constant flow of groups and other customers. Will be back again!"
