What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Longport Station is a functional but uninspiring railway stop with very limited amenities. While it serves its purpose for transit, travelers frequently cite its depressing atmosphere, lack of facilities (toilets, food, Wi-Fi), and unreliable ticket machines as significant drawbacks. Parking and accessibility also present challenges.
"This train station is served by Northern, EMR and London NorthWestern however London NorthWestern is the only regular stopper here.
EMR does manage this station, they have shelters on each side with a ticket machine too however I believe it doesn't work often so I suggest buying in advance.
Buses do serve here however not on Sundays and they do finish around 6/7pm, There are car parking spaces available here too.
If you need some food or drink there are no such facilities located in the station however there are plenty of places nearby especially a petrol station which is amazing and has plenty of options.
This station is "accessible" however there is no lift linking the 2 platforms just a footbridge so if you needed to change here you would have to go out of the station and over the bridge.
There are also no toilet facilities located in the station.
Overall this station is not the worst but no where near the best station I've been to and I personally do not recommend."

"This railway station is located on the line that heads towards Manchester in one direction, and Stoke-on-Trent in the other.
There is a small amount of car parking spaces located near platform 2 which could perhaps take maybe 3 cars at best.
I won't be in any particular great rush to park my car there simply because there is no obvious CCTV overlooking the car park, and access to this small car park is not very good at all, quite simply because the car park is situated right next door to an industrial site that includes a car dealership and garage repair service, therefore access to parking your car near platform 2 isn't that great really at all.
Considering parking spaces for cars on platform one, there really isn't any official car parking space on that side of the platform so if you wanted to take a train towards Stoke-on-Trent it would be far easier if somebody dropped you off on that side rather than you leave your car anywhere near that part of the station, and that is why I have given this place a rating of only three stars.
Looking at the better parts of this station, there is a digital display board on both sides of the station, and both platforms do have covered waiting areas, and there is also a bike rack located on platform one which can perhaps hold two or three bikes at best (at any one time).
There is absolutely no means that I could see where you could buy a ticket if you wanted to, so you would have to either purchase it in advance, or buy it on board the train.
This railway station is a reasonably busy railway station in terms of trains passing through it, but there aren't as many trains if you want to actually get on (and board the train)."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
Understanding Longport Station's Role
The station's infrastructure is basic, featuring shelters on each platform but lacking essential amenities like toilets, Wi-Fi, or food and drink facilities. This utilitarian approach means visitors should come prepared with their own provisions and be aware of the limited services available. The station's unstaffed nature further emphasizes its role as a simple transit point.
Despite its functional purpose, reviews frequently highlight the station's uninviting and depressing atmosphere. Boarded-up windows and a general state of disrepair contribute to a negative perception. This contrasts with its role as a gateway to Stoke-on-Trent, suggesting a disconnect between its transport function and visitor experience.
Navigating Accessibility and Parking
Parking at the station is also limited and comes with caveats. A small car park near Platform 2 can hold only a few vehicles. Concerns have been raised about the lack of CCTV surveillance in this area, and the access to the car park is described as poor, situated next to an industrial site. For those heading towards Stoke-on-Trent (Platform 1), there is no official parking, making drop-offs the most practical option. Travelers are advised to consider these limitations when planning their arrival by car.
Given these constraints, utilizing public transport like buses (with their own time limitations) or being dropped off by car are often more practical solutions than relying on the station's parking facilities. Advance planning is crucial to ensure a smoother journey.
