Day trip countryside walk near London: 📌 Lewes Mount Caburn Circular walk. ⛰️ The first hill is steep but it’s not too bad, and after that the rest of the walk is pretty easy. There’s 2 ladders, but you can also use the gate. No other stiles. 🗺️ You can follow what I walked on my AllTrails. 🥪 No food along the walk but plenty of options in Lewes. 🚽 Toilets at the station, but nothing along t...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Mount Caburn for its peaceful atmosphere, stunning panoramic views, and excellent walking opportunities. The historical significance of the Iron Age hill fort and the beautiful chalk grassland are frequently highlighted as major draws. While the climb can be challenging, the rewarding vistas and natural beauty make it a highly recommended destination.

"Peaceful, beautiful and incredible views. Lots of great walks round here. As good as it gets!"

Oliver

"Mount Caburn is an isolated part of the South Downs between Lewes and Glynde. It stands on a vertical chalk escarpment over the Ouse (steep ascent up the narrow lane to the golf club!), consists of open, rolling chalk grassland and offers a great view over the Ouse valley and the surrounding South Downs from the hill fort at its highest point facing south.

A walk over it, which can be continued on to the hills south of Glynde if you wish to walk further, is much recommended on a nice summer's day. The chalk grassland, and the nature reserve in particular, contains many characteristic species of wildflower, including the spotted, pyramidal and fragrant orchids."

Nick Waldenmaier

"Great place for a walk. Few circular walks and other options from this area. Walk to lewes isn’t too far. Well worth a trek"
