What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Portico Library is lauded as a 'hidden gem' with stunning historic architecture and friendly staff. Visitors appreciate the engaging exhibitions by local artists and the charming cafe. However, some find public access limited, with many areas reserved for members, leading to a feeling of being a 'look-but-don't-touch' space for non-members.
"What an incredibly strange place! The staff are great and nice but this place isn't for the public as much as they adamantly say so. Small place and much of the sitting and rest areas are reserved for members. The public doesn't have anything to do besides take a look around for 5 minutes. I would say either 1) make it quite accessible for the public or 2) make it members only. This - being in two places at once - isn't cutting it at all."

"Really enjoyed the exhibition that was on - poems and photography from local artists, and extracts shown in books from the library itself - the books on the shelves are so beautiful to look at - really old with torn and aged spines, looks like they’ve seen the world - love it. Staff super friendly too."
