What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Abiqua Falls is a highly praised natural wonder, lauded for its stunning beauty, unique basalt columns, and refreshing swimming opportunities. Visitors consistently recommend proper footwear and caution on the steep, sometimes treacherous trail. Some find the drive challenging and advise checking trailhead accuracy.
"This place has been my favorite hiking spot within 1 hour from the salem area. I also love to swim by the falls once the weather is hot. I usually park near the top of the gravel road and make the hike 4-5 miles."

"So worth the trek down. Would highly recommend preparing for lunch and a swim because that’s what I wish we did. When driving down the road, if you don’t have AWD and some good clearance on your vehicle, I would recommend pulling off and parking once you’re about 1 mile from the trailhead and walk the road. Also, while we hiked down in Birkenstocks (not because we’re unprepared, just because we were lazy and didn’t want to put our hiking boots on) I would highlyyyy recommend hiking shoes or sneakers because it gets a little treacherous once you hop off the road. Quite steep at parts but there is a rope to help guide you down. Go slow and it’s nbd. So much easier coming back up! It took us about an hour from the mile point on the road to the falls and then another hour back up"

"You will fall, or not.
1) Google is wrong. We kept going past google mark for the trail head, probably 0.4 miles past it. Asked someone where the trail started, they were using Alltrails. Yes look for a sign(2xs) saying private property.
2)Wear proper shoes, lots of people with regular sneakers, if wearing hiking shoes the descent and ascent will be be easier and less risky.
3)Leave kids at home, or don't. We had our 1yr old and 3yr old. We had hiking boots and took it super easy on the way down.
4) We drove a 21 Rav4 in, the horse shoe turn has a very steep rut in the road, regular cars will not make it and you wont see it till you come to it, be prepared to back up. We cleared it with out issues."
