What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Independence Rock as a well-maintained and historically significant stop. The opportunity to see pioneer carvings and enjoy panoramic views from the summit are major highlights. Some note the steepness of the climb and the need for caution regarding wildlife.
"Nice clean rest stop and paths to see the rock were well maintained. You can walk around to view the names on the one side of the rock or climb on top if you are able, its really steep. I did not. There are animal gates to get in and we did see Proghorns when we were there. Also heard a rattle snake so watch your step."

"Great pit stopalong the way. Clean restrooms, shaded picnic tables outside. The kids ages 5-18 loved climbing around in the rock trying to find the oldest signature (1830). The adults enjoyed it too. the views from up there were amazing. If you are not up for climbing the rock there is a trail all around it."

"Stopped here mainly to use the bathrooms - they were very clean! However, upon stopping we realized what an awesome site this is. It’s a 1.4 mile loop around the rock. Pioneers carved their names into the rock upon Passing through along the Sweetwater River. You can also climb up the rock. Whether to just stop and enjoy the scenery or to take the walk out to view the history, it’s a great stop for any age."
