What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning views and the unique 'wind' phenomenon of the Darby Canyon Wind Cave. The hike is considered rewarding, though the final ascent can be challenging. Some note snow lingering into late June, impacting cave access, and advise caution regarding wildlife.
"Great hike. I recorded 8 miles on my Garmin. Great views from start to finish. After the first half mile it's a gradual climb up Darby Canyon with a steep climb up to Wind Cave Falls. Lots of great spots to enjoy the views. The two-tier waterfall is beautiful."
Stewart Carnes
"Definitely one of the coolest hikes and caves I have gone to. The last bit is a bit tough, and the climb to the cave was pretty sketchy because the stream coming out of the cave was at a high water level and moving fast, and there was a good bit of snow still, but I still made it. If you want to go in the cave, coming later in the summer when the snow isn't as bad is a good idea."
Jonathan Reading
"An easy 3 mile hike each way. The last half mile or so is steeper but still manageable.
Trail is well maintained and marked but is not wheelchair friendly.
Lots of families on this trail.
Dog friendly, be sure to use a leash and pack out any feces.
This is bear territory! During the day the trail is heavily trafficked and bears will avoid the area but if you go early morning or late evening, there are substantially fewer people. Bear spray and/or a pistol are highly recommended. There are plenty of signs to this effect.
Plenty of parking. Porta-potty in the parking lot.
The trail may have snow into late June. Sudden summer thunderstorms are possible at any time."
