Visitors rave about the magnificent and rigorous hike to Balanced Rock, praising the gorgeous views and unique geological formations. While the steep, rocky steps can be challenging, especially for descent, the effort is widely considered worth it. Some caution is advised for young children due to the lack of railings, and sturdy footwear is a must. Arriving early on weekends is crucial to avoid crowds and parking issues.
"This was an absolutely magnificent hike! It is definitely rigorous, essentially Rocky stone steps all the way up the mountain, but the views are gorgeous all throughout. It definitely could feel a bit scary with young children because there aren’t railings, but my kids aged 10, seven, seven and five all really loved it (though I was definitely nervous a few times). I definitely recommend wearing tennis shoes with really good tread as some of the rocks can be slippery. I have read that on weekends. It can be so crowded that you can’t find parking, but we went on a Wednesday late August and found it was not too busy."

"I didn’t check what trail is there so I went in flip-flops. So on the way up it was okay, but when I had to go down, I did it barefoot. It’s why I didn’t reach this point, I turned back on half way. But it was enough high for me to enjoy the view. So, think in advance and be prepared to this trail, not like me 🤦🏻♀️"

"We started at the east shore trail and that was easier, in my opinion. Going down all of the slippery rocks was hard but I don’t know if I would have made it up all of them lol. The hike is beautiful and the rock is super cool!!"
