Reviews Summary

Guests rave about the Nu-Wray Inn's stunning renovation, historic charm, and exceptional hospitality. The Sundries Restaurant receives high praise for its delicious and accommodating menu. While the lack of an elevator is noted, the overall experience is consistently described as cozy, comfortable, and memorable, making it a highly recommended stay.

"If you like historic hotels, this is a great choice! We just lucked into booking it as our first choice (with a great long view of the mountains) was full. This is a historic inn on the Burnsville, NC town square that has just (in 2025) reopened after an update/refresh. It's beautifully and interestingly refurbished! We just enjoyed walking all around the inside checking it out. A personable fellow checked us in from the lovely lobby with a sitting area (where several people were relaxing and chatting in front of a wood fire) and walked us to our room on the 3rd floor. No elevators, so he offered to help us with our bags. Our quaint queen room was interestingly decorated. The bathroom was spacious with all new fixtures. Our room had a large wall Roku TV and its own central AC thermostat (not the usual loud single unit AC). Our room at the back of the building was quiet and the bed was really comfy.

If you need handicapped accessible, be sure to call ahead for availability since there's no elevator.

If you like interesting, historic, and well appointed, we thought this hotel was quite the lucky find! Well done NuWray owners!"

"We stayed at the Nuwray Hotel with our family of six and absolutely loved every minute of it. You can feel the history the moment you walk in — they’ve done an incredible job keeping the classic charm of the building while making everything feel cozy and comfortable. We ate at the Sundries Restaurant (fantastic food!) and visited all the different bars throughout the hotel — each one had its own unique vibe.

What really stood out, though, was the staff. They treated us like old friends from the moment we arrived. One evening, they even built a fire outside so our kids could make s’mores — such a thoughtful touch that made our trip unforgettable.

We’ll definitely be coming back. The Nuwray far exceeded our expectations — highly recommend!"

"This is a charming hotel in a beautiful, small mountain town. The staff were incredibly friendly, engaging, and very knowledgeable about the hotel's fascinating history. It has been beautifully renovated—tasteful, cozy, and full of character. I enjoyed sitting on the porch in one of the many rocking chairs admiring this quaint town. My room was spotless and the bed was amazingly comfortable. I typically do not sleep well away from home, but from the first night I slept like a rock! The linens were high-quality and the towels were plush and luxurious.

The food was fabulous—fresh, flavorful, and served in a warm, welcoming setting. I am a vegetarian who also has a gluten allergy and had many options here and at other restaurants in town.

This is a great place to visit and I can't wait to come back. If Our State Magazine has not already featured this hotel, they are missing an excellent opportunity!"
