What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Landsford Canal State Park for its unique natural beauty, particularly the stunning Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies that bloom in May. The historical significance of the canal system and the peaceful atmosphere for walking and picnicking are also highly appreciated. Some note that fishing spots are limited and that the park is best experienced during specific seasons for its main attractions.
"This has been one of my favorite places to walk for about 17 years now. If you want to catch the spider lilies in full bloom, the park’s website keeps a frequently updated lily watch with projections for peak bloom based on the weather each spring. Usually the month of May is the best time to go to catch the lilies. It’s worth the wait. I still very much enjoy walking the canal and reading up on the use and construction of the various structures. It’s a great place to photograph local flora and fauna if that’s your thing! I also appreciated the finished wood stained benches."

"VERY unique historical park!! It’s very cool to walk along the trail that has been there for so long. Some neat waterfront spots, too - not that many great spots to fish, though (since there are so many low branches)."

"Only very slightly out of the way between Columbia and Charlotte, this is a calm park centered around a canal on the Catawba River that avoided some rocky sections. It's a nice walk along the river with the added interest of the remains of an early 19th century canal for historical interest. It's a great park, but one of the coolest things is the location of a plaque about eagle nests at the perfect angle to see just such a nest in a natural break in the tree line. Someone was really, really smart in finding that location, it is perfect."
