🌾 The quietest stories often leave the deepest imprint. This is Grace Pearl Ingalls (1877–1941), the youngest sister of Laura Ingalls Wilder, whose books shaped the American imagination with tales of prairie life, hardship, and resilience. Born in Burr Oak, Iowa, and raised on the rugged plains of De Smet, South Dakota, Grace lived much of her life in the shadow of her famous sister — but make no...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the museum for preserving a unique 'missing link' in Laura Ingalls Wilder's story, particularly the historic hotel and schoolhouse. However, the experience can be inconsistent, with some finding the guided tours lacking in depth and the admission price a bit high for the information provided. Accessibility in the historic buildings is also a concern for some.

"A brand new visitor's center has just opened next to the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. The Ingalls family lived in Burr Oak for a short time (though it was not mentioned in any of the Little House books). This weekend is the annual Laura Days featuring guest speakers, music, food, pioneer games and lots of kids dressed up in their pioneer clothing. A short but spirited parade was featured on Saturday afternoon."

"This was our 5th stop on our Laura tour. You have to do the guided tour and our tour guide was not very good. Unlike our other stops where we were told stories about the family and artifacts we saw, this guide would say things like, "This is the kitchen and these are the tools they would use." She seemed to be in a hurry to get thru the tour. When she was asked questions, she did not have much information. I took lots of pictures of the posted information to read thru later as our guide was often ahead of us giving us useless information. More information would have been welcomed as this stop is often referred to as the missing Link in Laura's story and I left with very little new information. This was not worth $10 per person. However, a different guide would have made a world of difference."

Amy Turner

"Excellent short visit on a beautiful October Saturday. Valerie was our tour guide. Well worth the $10 and one hour tour. My wife loves all things Laura Ingalls. We hope to visit all the locations across the Midwest. You should definitely do this tour. And tip your tour guide well. Good stuff."
