Went to Rolling Hills Asylum last night

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rolling Hills Asylum offers a compelling blend of history and paranormal intrigue, with many visitors reporting genuine unexplained phenomena. While the historical aspects and the potential for ghostly encounters are highly praised, some guests have had negative interactions with the owner, citing rudeness and overcharging. Despite these mixed reviews regarding staff, the overall experience of exploring the asylum is often described as memorable and worth the visit for those seeking a spooky adventure.
"giving a rating of 2 stars after my visit last night, the paranormal activity was great but the owner of the asylum was very rude. she took our flashlights and overcharges for her flashlights. 4$ water bottles while the place is extremely hot and humid in summer and she said she would have food and snacks and when we asked about it she said ”I was very busy yesterday so I didn’t feel like getting anything today sorry” and anytime you try to tell her about your experience or any activity she would just shot you down and say it didn’t happen. she was very negative the entire time and honestly ruined my mood the rest of the night. if you want to have a good time there try to avoid her. other than her it was great experience and her employees are very nice!"

"Every year around my birthday for the past couple years I choose an abanonded place to go tour on the east coast and my mom and I do just that
11/10 loved it here, so much to see, love the plaques to learn the history of the rooms, and loved listening to the video at the beginning."

"I attended the self-guided ghost tour on October 12, 2025, from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m., and it was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had. After a quick check-in and an introductory video about the building’s history, we were free to explore almost the entire place on our own. Only a few rooms were off-limits for safety reasons.
If you enjoy history and old architecture, this is definitely a place worth visiting. Whether or not you believe in ghosts is up to you; I experienced a few strange things, but they could easily be explained by the building’s age and natural sounds. Either way, it made for a fun and spooky night out.
I’ve read some of the past reviews, and honestly, they couldn’t be further from the truth. The owner was wonderful, clearly passionate about the building and its history. Yes, there are rules, and yes, she checks guests before they enter, but that’s completely fair. It’s private property, and she takes her role as caretaker seriously. If you don’t like following rules, this isn’t the place for you.
Personally, I appreciated that she’s a no-nonsense person who doesn’t tolerate disrespectful behaviour. With a property like this, you need structure to keep both the guests and the building safe. Some people seem to think that paying for an experience means they can do whatever they want, but that’s not how it works here and I respect that.
Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely be coming back again in the future."
