Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center for its helpful rangers who provide excellent guidance, especially when park attractions are closed. The exhibits offer a nice introduction to the area's nature and history, and the gift shop is well-regarded for its selection. While the center itself is a valuable resource, the true magic lies in the surrounding dunes and lake views.
"Ranger mapped out a route for us with lovely views since the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive was already closed for the season. Stopping points included Inspiration Point and Miller's Hill among others. Thanks, Lady Ranger!"

"Beautiful hiking trails with an amazing finish at the dunes, overlooking the lake. Easy hike, but the dunes offer a more challenging hike down to the water, but take care, it's harder coming back up! The dune overlook of the lake is stunning. A must see!"

"Definitely stop here either before or after seeing the dunes. It has a cute mini-exhibit off the gift shop explaining some animals and minerals you might see while in the park as well as a little light-up map and some history notes. The gift shop has something for everyone- I got a dog tag for my pup and a rain jacket (another couple came up to me and the man said he loved his so much that they made the stop to buy another!) Meanwhile, my mom got a t-shirt. The stamp passport station is right inside the door to the left when you enter. The ranger selling the park tickets was super knowledgeable and will answer anything you might need to know.
Also the google time is wrong the building opens at 9 right now not 8:30."
