What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors love Lake Wilson Park for its beautiful nature trails, scenic lake views, and the unique charm of its 'castle.' It's a fantastic off-leash dog park, though be prepared for muddy conditions after rain and the presence of ticks. Some find the water crossings challenging for very young children.
"This is one of our favorite trails!! It takes us about 1-1.5 hours to hike and it’s pretty flat for the most part.
Warning ⚠️: whenever it’s just rained, there are various parts of the trail that you will be walking through water or at least mud. Luckily, my husband carried me across those parts so my shoes wouldn’t get wet. I recommend bringing some sandals in case you need to walk through the water.
Additionally, this is an “Off Leash Dog Trail”. 🐶 We let our dog off leash as we hike. If you are not comfortable with dogs or you have very aggressive dogs, this may not be the trail for you. Whenever it gets hotter outside, there will be many dogs wondering the trails. If you do bring your dog, word to the wise…make sure your dog is on tick medication!! Those nasty little bugs WILL latch on! Check yourself too afterwards!
Lastly, I wouldn’t recommend any children under the age of 10 to hike this trail. Like I said, the water you have to walk through is very strong."

"Lake Wilson is a wonderful place to hike to since it's only thirty minutes on foot from my house and I love taking walks out there with my dog, Tilly, when it's not too cold or too hot outside. The trails around Lake Wilson are also pretty great to hike and the pavillion area is nice for relaxing or working on stuff (like writing, which is my favorite past time) with a beautiful view of the lake. I absolutely love Lake Wilson and I love that it's literally so close to home!!!! :) What I especially love to do is take walks out to the lake in the morning with Tilly, pray to the four directions, Wi'ixkwal and Koyokopshiīhl and take a picture of the lake before returning home."

"Lake Wilson Park is comprised of approximately 320 acres of land with 28 acres of water. The lake was constructed as Fayetteville’s original water supply reservoir. The city stopped using it as a water supply in the 1960s when Beaver Water District became the primary source of water for Northwest Arkansas.
Park users can experience boating, fishing, nature watching, picnicking and hiking. The park is also an off-leash dog park with both sunny and shady places for pets to enjoy. The nature trail runs almost entirely through the woods with views of the lake and ancient rock formations. There are also lots of beautiful wildflowers in the spring!"
