Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Fort Pickens for its unique combination of historical exploration and beautiful, less crowded beaches. Many highlight the impressive fort structure, the opportunity to wander through tunnels, and the peaceful atmosphere. Some note the heat during summer visits and the need for a flashlight for deeper exploration.

"A little history and a bit of relaxation. The perfect combination. It's worth drive to see and explore the old fort and to see the beach with less hustle and bustle. Just the simple beauty of the beach the way it once was. There are bathrooms and a good path to get you closer to the packed sand. The water was super clear and the sunset was lovely. There are tables in the pavilion so you can have sand free sandwiches 😁. There's also a shower to rinse off all the things on the path out. We will definitely be back."

Jessica Cargile

"This fort is what you imagine a fort being, with narrow, long tunnels that you can explore (bring a flashlight!), lots of rooms and passageways and hidden spots.

If you bring kids, get them a Junior Ranger book to complete so they can earn their Junior Ranger badge while learning the history of the fort and about animals who call the national seashore home.

There’s also a ton of beach to hang out on, and it wasn’t very crowded, even on a weekend. The waves were small, and the water was pretty clear too."

Caitlin Carter

"These are only pictures of the main Fort. The highlight of your visit. You need 2 days to see everything here. All of the batteries around the key are fascinating to see and wander around. So much history here. The beaches are also very beautiful. Amazing sense of peace. Well worth the 7 day pass. If you camp here even better. One of our favorite places to visit in Pensacola. And the rangers are super friendly and informative."
