Built in 1943, the Cavitt Creek Covered Bridge (aka Little River Covered Bridge) near Glide, Oregon is a housed Howe truss designed bridge that carries Cavitt Creek County Road, across the Little River.
About 1,000 feet upstream of where Little River meets with Cavitt Creek. Built by Floyd Frear who built numerous covered bridges in the county. It’s unusual portal shape was done to accommodate logging trucks.
The Cavitt Creek bridge, and road were named for Robert Cavitt, who settled along the creek in the 1880's. The covered section of the bridge is 70 ft long, with the entire structure at 149 ft, and sitting on concrete piers.
Noted features include Tudor portal arches, that allowed room for log trucks, unhewn log truss chords, three windows per side, metal roof, longitudinal running floor planks, and narrow truss slits that improve lighting and ventilation.
Finally, there are a few pics along the Umpqua River in route to the bridge and some amazing locations someone is blessed enough to call home. Also a cool viewpoint called Colliding Rivers.
Lastly, something I have never seen....a stop sign built into the street asphalt....and here I thought I'd seen everything by now...."

"It seems to function almost like a large birdhouse, but if you can get over the droppings, the location is cool and the light inside of the bridge is fun to play with as a photographer. I’m not sure it’s worth the trip out just for the bridge, but check it out if you’re in the area."
