The vast, open landscapes and abundant wildlife are major draws. However, some have encountered unhelpful ranger interactions, and preparedness for windy conditions and lack of amenities is essential.

"Had a wonderful experience boondocking on the rim of Badlands National Park. If you like windy days (August/September), beautiful views, happy and friendly neighbors, and zero fees, then BGNG is the place to chill."

"Wonderful National Forest and National Grassland information site. Superb maps. Tom was a font of information for both the local Hot Springs area as well as Boondocking in the badlands, hiking in many areas, springs, etc. Even a place to get homemade and gluten-free food in Hot Springs. Thank you!"

Susan S

"The ranger at hot springs ranger station was not helpful. Wanted to impose his will and understanding of ADA rules and regulations on us. And since we, as disabled Americans were unable to visit the areas we wanted to without accommodations by the U.S. Forest Service, suggested other places further away and some out of even his jurisdiction. I will be filing civil and criminal complaints with the Dept.of Justice and the Dept. Of Agriculture."
