What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural setting of Carter Notch Hut, particularly the picturesque lake and the remote, secluded feel. The clean and comfortable bunkhouses, along with the excellent meals provided by the croo, are frequently praised. Some note the separate buildings for facilities and the challenging final ascent, but overall, the experience is described as pleasant and memorable.
"This hut is small, and all the facilities are in different buildings, making it much less interesting in bad weather. For instance, the toilet is a good minute walk uphill on a trail from the main building, and the rooms building is just a little bit closer. Overall still pleasant. I worked for stay as a thru-hiker, so I am not complaining, just stating facts. Thanks to the croo for having me!"

"Wow! Absolutely stunning! Cannot wait to go back. Love the place, the hike and the caretaker!"
Duncan Speel
"Enjoyed this hut very much; it felt very remote, as you really can't see it until you're right in front of it. The hike was fairly easy from the 19 mile trailhead parking lot (which is only 3.8 miles, NOT 19, phew!), although it's quite rocky and steep at the end. My husband and daughter swam in the lake which was nice, albeit cold, and we enjoyed having a room to ourselves (2 bunk beds/4 beds in each room, unlike some of the other AMC huts)!"
