Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate Old Sabine Bottom WMA for its proximity to Dallas and its wild, natural beauty, offering great opportunities for hunting, fishing, and kayaking. However, the experience can be significantly impacted by river water levels, leading to challenging portages and accessibility issues. Some find the terrain demanding and recommend being in good physical shape.

"I love coming here - not far from Dallas and a great piece of wilderness to explore. It can vary a lot depending on the water level, so it’s cool to come back at different times of the year."

David Swenson

"We kayaked from Hwy 69 Bridge to the Hoard Rd Bridge just after a flood.
The river had hit almost 13 ft, but was down to 6.5 when we went.
There are currently 6 or 7 portages. Some of these are not easy.
We beached our kayaks after dark and finally hiked out.
We came back a week later, found the kayaks and made it out (during a severe thunderstorm).
All things considered, we had a good time.
I needed to be in better shape."

Michael Yocom

"Beautiful WMA, thick woods, river bottoms, sloughs and more wildlife than you can shake a stick at. Got a late season duck hunt in, no luck this time, maybe next season!"
