"The Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos, New Mexico is the center point of any visit to Los Alamos, especially any visit related to the development of the Manhattan Project during the second world war. The historic story regarding the very earliest days of the Manhattan Project can be found here at the Fuller lodge. It is where people who first came to Los Alamos to participate in the Manhattan Project would check in. They would be housed here until permanent housing could be found. It was also a location for group meetings and meals. Initially commandeered for the war effort, the Fuller lodge, remains today is starting point for any visit to Los Alamos. I'm the same grounds you'll find historic homes related to the key people associated with the Manhattan project. There is a lovely gifts are here, but that's not why you go to visit the Fuller lodge. You go for the tours, which are led by outstanding docents, and for walking the grounds and reading the signs describing the various buildings. I particularly enjoyed visiting the inside of the homes of the key people associated with the Manhattan project. Don't miss an opportunity to understand the beginnings of the Manhattan Project by the multi-hour visit to the Fuller house and the grounds. Absolutely recommended for persons of all ages, and also for people with disabilities. Even if you visit when the lodge is closed, you will not be disappointed because of all the available signage outside in the walking areas. By the way, there's plenty of free parking, and walking off of the grounds to the adjacent shopping areas is certainly easy and safe. Los Alamos is only about 45 minutes from Santa fe, new mexico, but it's an extremely pretty an easy drive up the hill."
